The 883 and LS650 are quite similar in the power department, but the power-to-weight ratio is better with the Suzuki. You're so right about ergonomics of the standard Sporty, anyone over 5'8" will be very cramped and ride with their feet under them and knees up near their beltline. If any of you get the hots for a Sportster, just try and pick up one of those top-heavy beasts when it's lying on it's side... hopefully you won't rupture a disc.
Regarding the chrome, HD usually does a super job in that deptartment, so the owner must have ridden it in salt air near the beach and put it away wet.
